Now, that is precisely what Mukund and Rossini would have in common. Known and well liked for his compositions, he is steadily carving a name for himself as a serious musician in the San Francisco bay area.


Mukund has made his mark as a composer, singer and keyboardist in the Indian music scene in the SF bay area. He has scored the background music for a couple of tamil plays – “Kalavaram” and “Kaasu mela kaasu” staged by NAATAK (www.naatak.com) in the bay area and a documentary by the Atlanta based People TV, “For Straights Only”, in collaboration with Shyam Vaidyanathan from Chicago. This documentary was nominated for HBO’s short film awards. His original compositions have been well received at the semi annual MTAC (Music Teacher’s Association of California) piano recitals. A feather in his cap was the first prize in the “Composers Today” competition conducted by the MTAC in June 2000. Mukund is one of the founding members of the popular SF bay area light music band Thillana. He performs with several light music groups like “Pallavi” and “Surabhee” in the bay area and “Rasika” in the east coast.


Mukund’s musical journey began when he joined the IIT-Madras light music band as a keyboardist. The band won several awards in the inter-collegiate cultural scene. He completed the Trinity College of Music Grade- IV Theory Exams during his second year at IIT. While working on his master’s degree in Auburn University, Alabama, he underwent jazz training with Dr.Cazz Patrick at the AU department of music. Mukund has been undergoing classical piano training with Dr. Irina Prilipko Morgan, President International Russian Music Piano Competition, for the past 7 years. More than a music teacher, she is his friend, philosopher, guide and a constant source of encouragement. In addition to western classical music, he is taking carnatic vocal training under Smt. Suguna Purushothaman in Chennai and Sri. P.V. Natarajan in San Jose, CA.


Mukund is an engineer by profession. In his day job he works for SoloPower Inc in San Jose, CA as the Director of New Product Development.
